It's one of the most favoured holiday spots in the world. The sandy beaches, calm lagoons and backwaters, and the ever hospitable population make Kerala a much loved destination for all.

KADMAT ISLAND

Kadmat, located 407km off Cochin is an eight-km-long and 550-m-wide island. The long sandy beaches and sand banks on southern tip of the island are great for sun bathing. Coir twisting is the main occupation of the people here. It is famous for its limestone too. In addition to the beautiful shallow lagoon on the west, there is a narrow lagoon on the east.

Kayaks, pedal boats, sailing yachts, skiing boats and glass-bottomed boats are available on hire. The main attraction in Kadmat is definitely the Lacadives Diving School set up by Prahlad Kakkar. It is the first and only CMAS-certified or World Underwater Federation diving school in India. Although its headquarters is in Mumbai, the base is in Kadmat. Laccadives has beginner as well as advanced courses offered here during the October-May. It has become an attraction for water sport enthusiasts. Rays and sharks swim in clear waters with 20-50m visibility.

Non-Indians are also permitted to visit this island. In short, the place is a real holiday spot that takes one away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
