Minicoy, a popular Tuna fishing centre of Lakshadweep, and the second largest island of the archipelago, is just under 400km from Cochin in Kerala. It is crescent-shaped and the southernmost island of the group. Tourists spend four to five nights here, on the cruise package, depending on the vessel. The passenger ships that ferry tourists and natives are mv Lakshadweep Sea and mv Arabian Sea. The rooms in the ship are of two kinds – Gold class, which is four-sharing, and Diamond Class, which is twin-sharing. The journey takes about 14-16 hours, one way.
The island is just 125km to the north of Thurakunu in Maldives, at the northern end of the Eight Degree Channel. The Minicoy atoll contains two islands: the main 10-km-lomg island is located on the eastern and southeastern side of the lagoon, along the reef fringe. To the south of the main island is the uninhabited islet of Viringili. It’s barely 200m in length.

The lighthouse on Minicoy is an oft-visited site for tourists and natives. It was built in 1885. Diving in Minicoy is a real interesting affair: the Minicoy Trio are shipwrecks that are almost like museums to the divers who visit the places. Other dive sites are Murambu, Ragganmathi, Ship Wreck, Mulimathi, Bose Point and Boduhavaligang.
